SMA National Stage Management Awards make a welcome return in 2024 at ABTT Theatre Show Alexandra Palace  – 5th June 2024 at 1 :30 PM with drinks reception following .  (ABTT Theatre Show is 5-6 June 2024).

Nominations are open for all stage and live events managers in UK (and Ireland) – NOT just members – and are welcome from all theatre and events professionals who wish to recognise exceptional talent and work by stage and events managers in shows, events or a season between May 2023 to May 2024 (please contact SMA to nominate shows and teams in 2022 which may be included due to the COVID hiatus).

” Sustainable Production: SMA is committed to supporting sustainable production and theatre practice in the UK and we make regular contributions to the Theatre Green Book . Our judges will take account of good sustainable practice and initiatives when reviewing nominations in every category of the SMA National Stage Management Awards “

In 2024 the awards categories are as follows:

The Antonia Collins award for early career stage managers.
Including final year graduates in vocational training and all entrants to the industry since May 2022. For a significant and notable start in stage management work in theatre shows and live events. Demonstrating care and kindness as well as exceptional skill in their craft.

SMA Stage Management Team Award for regional and subsidised theatre and live events   For teams of any size distinguishing themselves through excellent teamwork (as appropriate) and skills and technical performance above the usual high standard in a show or season ( Qualifying period May 2023 – May 2024- with consideration for nominations for 2022.)

SMA Clear-Com Team Award for stage management in West End and Commercial touring and Large scale live events.   For teams of any size distinguishing themselves through excellent teamwork, communications, and exceptional skills and performance above the normal high standard in a show or season.  ( Qualifying period May 2023 – May 2024- with consideration for nominations for 2022.)

SMA Stage Management Achievement Award for Fringe and Small Scale.   For teams and individual SMs showing exceptional skills and performance in small scale theatre shows and festivals and  live events (including touring and children’s shows) where the creative use of limited resources and different challenges and exceptional achievement in smaller scale work will be taken into account and recognised.

SMA David Ayliff Award for Lifetime Achievement in Stage Management   For exceptional work and a lasting legacy over a working lifetime in stage or live events management and / or training and mentoring.   

All SMA members, all nominees , all nominators, plus supporters and colleagues will be invited to the ceremony (subject to capacity).

Now in its 15th year, PLASA Focus Leeds is set to return to the Royal Armouries for another year from 9-10 May 2022. Free to attend, the popular regional event connects thousands of professionals with many of the biggest names in live entertainment technology.  SMA will be there on Stand R-E01 See you there!
